Episode notes
The comedy of stand up comedian Ms. Pat is direct, clever and raw.
She had an extraordinarily difficult path to success. She was a victim of child sexual abuse. A mother at 14. She was incarcerated.
Ms. Pat worked hard and got out of some pretty tough circumstances. When things settled down, she landed a pretty good job. Then she did the unexpected. She quit the steady gig to do standup comedy. And things worked out pretty well.
She’s now headlining shows all over the country and she’s got her own tv show.
The Ms. Pat Show just kicked off its fourth season on BET Plus. The sitcom is a two time Emmy nominee. On the show, Ms. Pat plays a fictionalized version of herself. Her character is a standup comic, like Pat. She’s also a mother of four, like Pat.
We get into the show and some of the most challenging experiences of Ms. Pat’s life. She also gets into why she decided to take a chance on standup. Plus, a story about the time she took an order from a U.S. President at a fast food restaurant.
