Episode notes

Amber, Christian, and Casey are joined by Jeff Fastner (Producer, Storyboard Artist, and Animator) to revisit Jeu Monégasque — Season 2, Episode 11 of Archer.

Jeff talks about his unlikely path into animation, from acting in Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding to landing an animation internship and eventually helping build Archer from the ground up. He explains why animation is “acting with a pencil,” what it’s like being a storyboard artist and producer, and how the team learned as they went while creating one of television’s most distinctive animated series. They also discuss designing Monaco, visually creating the Grand Prix, and Jeff serving as the face model for Benoit.

Also in this episode: Bell Biv DeVoe and the East Coast Family, Malory’s sex tapes, bearer bonds, rectangular casino chips, Glengoolie Black, Jeff and Neal Holman’s legendary work partnership, Jeff’s love of architecture and location design, Cintiq gloves, Bento Box Studios, Frankensteining characters, fashion plates, the incredible chase sequence at the end of the episode, a round of Real Spy Gadget or Fake AI Slop Image, and everyone’s favorite automotive necessity: blinker fluid.

📺 FX’s Archer is now streaming on Hulu.
