Isaiah Rashad says he wants to be a rap star. But, he might already be? He’s signed to Top Dawg Entertainment, buds with SZA and Kendrick Lamar, and has performed at sold out shows across the world. But here’s the thing, when it comes to Isaiah Rashad: he doesn’t make anthemic party tracks. He doesn’t really make party music at all.
Isaiah’s music is beguiling. At times, his rhymes are abstract and fragmented. At others: deeply intimate and confessional. His newest album called It’s Been Awful dropped this past May. It doesn’t take long into listening to it to tell that despite the obstacles life has dealt him – he’s thriving and maybe making his best work yet?
Isaiah joins us to talk about the new record and which Prince song influenced one of his biggest songs on the project. He also chats about parenthood, listening to chopped and screwed versions of Outkast songs and more!
