The Song That Changed My Life is a segment that gives a chance for musicians and artists to tell us about the song that made them who they are today.
This week, we talked to Joey Santiago, guitarist for the Pixies. The Pixies sound changed everything for alternative rock. They influenced countless bands: Nirvana, Radiohead, Weezer, The Smashing Pumpkins and many others.
To celebrate the band’s 40th anniversary, the Pixies are back on the road – they have dates all over the world.
When we asked Santiago about the song that changed his life, his choice of artist didn’t exactly shock us: Jimi Hendrix. He picked a song off of Hendrix’s Are You Experienced LP. But on a record full of monster hits, fuzzed out blues standards and guitar shredding master classes – the song that changed Joey Santiago’s life is not really any of those things.
Joey Santiago talks about how the track Third Stone from the Sun helped him visualize the guitar in a way he had never thought of before.
Pixies will be heading on the road this summer. You can check out tour dates here.
