Social Media Specialist, Judge John Hodgman

Judge John Hodgman is hiring a part-time social media specialist. Judge John Hodgman is a comedy courtroom podcast on the Maximum Fun network, and it’s hosted by John Hodgman (DICKTOWN on FX/Hulu, Vacationland) and Jesse Thorn (NPR’s Bullseye with Jesse Thorn, Jordan Jesse Go!). Judge Hodgman adjudicates cases that real people send in, ranging from topics like “is chili a soup?” to “my mom wants me to flush her ashes down a toilet at Disneyworld but I don’t want to do it!”

Our social media specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing a social media strategy across platforms to grow our audience. They will have experience with YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, in particular, with a solid understanding of how to increase visibility and engagements across all platforms.

Objectives:

  • Grow our audience on the podcast feed and on YouTube.
  • Increase audience and engagement across platforms during membership drives, translate social media engagement to membership conversion.
  • Increase the number of case submissions and listener-submitted content for the show. 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop an overall Social Media Strategy for accomplishing our Objectives.
  • Create and execute a schedule for daily posts across our accounts, alternating among episode drop announcements, behind the scenes video, polls/quizzes designed to develop disputes and other content for the show. 
  • Develop new post formats that the candidate thinks will be successful in meeting our Objectives, and conducting tests of those formats to evaluate and demonstrate their effectiveness.
  • Posts should include a mix of media, with a special emphasis on selecting video clips to feature as reels and shorts on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok.
  • Provide regular performance reports in plain english, tracking metrics and trends, and assessing success of the Strategy overall and suggesting refinements as needed. 
  • Monitor the show’s social media replies and engage, build, and manage the listener community.
  • Promote the show and special events across platforms. 

Qualifications: 

  • Relevant work experience and familiarity with YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, BlueSky, and other platforms
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Creative with a great grasp of digital marketing 
  • Understanding of SEO optimization
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficient in photo and video editing software is ideal

Location: Can be remote or based in our Los Angeles office.
Salary: $20-28/hr depending on experience level
Hours: 20 hours a week
