Okay, now can I say something else? People are making some wild choices these days. Like, the Walt Disney Company, founded by animator Walt Disney, just fired a thousand folks, including artists, including an artist who made the work displayed in the room where they were doing the firing. It’s part of a move to “technology-enabled workforce,” which sounds a lot like AI slop dressed up as art.
That sucks. Wild choices are happening all over the place. But we are making different choices.
The good news is you have choices, too. If you’re not a MaxFun member, today you have a really important one.

MaxFun Meetup Day!
46 meetups across 4 continents! Last night hundreds of folks met up across the world to come together in real life. That rules.
I know since 2020 I have had a hard time figuring out how to be a person in the real world, or feeling comfortable in groups of strangers, and I imagine I’m not alone in that. But I think with how terrible everything in the world feels, we’re all feeling a real need for community. So, it was really great to go out and meet a bunch of nice people who live near me and care about a lot of the same things I do. I hope you were able to experience the same thing! We look forward to doing them more often. Ok, thanks for reading what is now my personal blog I guess!
New Milestone: 5,000 – the next meetup!
We were overwhelmed (emotionally and administratively) with the response to this year’s call for MaxFun Meetups! Most of the work for meetups is done by their intrepid hosts (thank you, thank you, thank you so much), but at HQ we wind up doing a good deal behind the scenes — coordinating, newslettering, promo-making, advising, posting. This year we even mailed out goodies to as many hosts as we could!
It was work, but we loved doing it. And because of member support we were able to. So let’s do it again! When we get to 5,000 new, upgrading, and boosting members, we’ll announce the date of our next MaxFun meetup, later this year (Probably much later. We all need to go to bed). In a world that feels like it keeps getting worse, being in community with you all makes it feel a little better.

Worried you’re gonna forget about it and get a big, unexpected charge next year? We would never. When your twelve months of pre-payment runs out, if you don’t cancel or pay for another year, your membership will just roll over to monthly payments instead.
