BONUS CONTENT PREVIEW: All-Star Sad Songs That Make You Feel Better with Neko Case, Gavin Rossdale, and more

21st April 2026

A sneak preview of this year’s bonus content special: Friends of the show take you through some feel bad / feel good tunes.

Episode notes

There is actual science that says listening to sad songs – about heartache, heartbreak, grief, worry, whatever it is – can make you feel better. The brain seeks that kind of stuff out and you feel less alone, more understood. It’s a paradox but there it is. We asked some friends of the show what worked for them and you’ll hear from Neko Case, Gavin Rossdale, Rhett Miller, Open Mike Eagle, Emma Swift, Jeremy Messersmith, Niko Stratis, Craig Jenkins, Ted Leo, and Josh Ritter. It all makes for a very moving playlist available exclusively to Max Fun members.

About the show

Join host John Moe (The Hilarious World of Depression) for honest, relatable, and, yes, sometimes funny conversations about mental health. Hear from comedians, musicians, authors, actors, and other top names in entertainment and the arts about living with depression, anxiety, and many other common disorders. Find out what they’ve done to address it, what worked, and what didn’t. Depresh Mode with John Moe also features useful insights on mental health issues with experts in the field. It’s honest talk from people who have been there and know their stuff. No shame, no stigma, and maybe a few laughs.
