Sawbones

Listen, nobody wants to lose a limb. Limbs are great. That said, if you've listened to even a small amount of Sawbones, it should come as no surprise that losing a limb used to be way, way, worse. This week, Dr. Sydnee and Justin provide a short history of amputation and, as a bonus, introduce you to surgeon Robert Liston to basically the coolest dude ever.

You can subscribe to their show right now on iTunes! Then tweet about or follow the show on Twitter (@Sawbones) so all your friends and family can be as horrified and entertained as you.

Amputation

Just heard about your podcast and downloaded episodes for an upcoming migration Cobourg, Ontario to Hatteras NC.
I was surprised that you didn't mention the civil war surgeon "Flash something" who in 2minutes amputated the patient's leg, right testicle and two off his assistants fingers. They didn't mention if anyone survived, but as a surgeon(gynecologist) I always mention this to my students.
Look forward to many more episodes.

Liston

Thanks for the great tidbits on this podcast. Just was wondering if you caught that Liston's portrait on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Liston was by Samuel John Stump.
