Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone

Nobody Listens to Paula Poundstone is a comedy field guide to life, or at least a set of IKEA assembly instructions. Where else can you find advice on topics from "How To Keep a Friend" to "How To Translate Your Verizon Bill?" Or even "What do I do if I encounter a Bear" and "Should I Get a Penis Piercing?"

Paula and her co-host Adam Felber bring on leading expert guests and use their unique comedic sensibility to help us navigate life in the 21st century. Along the way, Paula attempts to explains existence through her kaleidoscopic perspective, and Adam tries to interject some rationality.

Paula Poundstone is a nationally known comedian, legendary for her smart spontaneous humor. She and Adam are regular panelists on NPR's #1 show, Wait Wait...Don't Tell Me!

How do you manage wealth when you don’t have any? Stephen “Smart Money Steve” Rischall instructs Paula how to avoid going back to the days when she ate salt for dinner and sugar for dessert. Then LA Opera Chorus Master Jeremy Frank coaches Paula on how to sing our national anthem and thus rake in those sweet pre-game gigs. Also, Adam tries to help Paula improve her party chat skills, and we revisit our worst sponsor ever: Ed’s Dehydration Pills.

Paula has an audition coming up, so it’s fitting that we’re looking into Looking Good and Feeling Good. First, plastic surgeon Dr. David Rosenberg explains what it takes to take away a tattoo - how do you get that anchor removed from your bulging forearm before you apply for that job at the spinach factory. Then, therapist Marc Weiss explains how to cope with anxiety, and how Paula can conquer it before her audition. Also - hot sauce! Is “El Diablo” actually the work of the Devil?

As we wait for the ball to drop from high above Miranda Street, Paula and Adam review 2018... and how much it sucked! Still, there were some high points - weren’t there? Maybe a certain podcast making its debut...? We ring in the New Year by sampling some of our listeners’ lowest expectations for 2019. Also, with M. Night Shyamalan’s “Glass” poised to hit theaters, we review the first of its two prequels, 2000’s “Unbreakable,” starring Bruce Willis, Samuel L. Jackson, and the surprising hair stylings of Robert Louis Stevenson.

On a surprisingly cultured episode, Paula and Adam explore high art and haute cuisine. Luke McKinley, Maitre d’ at the amazing Providence restaurant reveals the secrets of getting the right table and figuring out the menu. And if he were a wine, we don’t mind saying that we paired Mr. McKinley perfectly with Dr. Jennifer Greenhill, Art History Professor from USC, who helped us explore the very nature of art, from Jackson Pollock to Norman Rockwell to a toasted bagel left on a gallery floor. Plus - we debut our Department of Corrections, wherein we correct a few slight, teensy-weensy inaccuracies that may have made it onto our show.

What are Paula and Adam thankful for? You, dear listeners. You. Which is why we spend some time reading your letters and playing your fantastic submissions to our Theme Song Contest. And then we treat you to a review of a heartwarming Thanksgiving classic so you can decide if it’s worth your time to rush through that second helping of turkey and go out to see “Creed 2.” Yes, we watched the very first “Rocky.” SPOILER ALERT: In the original, the turkey doesn’t make it.
