Reggie Watts on The Sound of Young America from Jesse Thorn on Vimeo.
Reggie Watts' bravura performance at The Sound of Young America Live! in Portland. I was standing off to the side -- I don't think I've ever seen an audience so wowed by a performer.
Reggie Watts' (former?) group, Maktub, is one of the best under-the-radar soul groups of recent vintage. Maktub (pronounced mock-tube) is highly recommended and beloved in Seattle, although it's been a while since they've come out with anything while Watts does his mind-blowing solo thing.
Is it just me, or do vimeo videos take super long to load? Like, 2 hours for this one?
I must say, it was worth the two hours. This is what I've been waiting for all my life!
Get this man a MacArthur.
I felt like I was watching Darren Aaronofsky's "The Fountain" in standup form.
but that ish was AWESOME!!! What is he using, referring to not drugs, but equipment, cuz I want it!!! like fo realz 8^D
I can't remember the device's full name, but I (possibly incorrectly) remember it having a space-themed name (like Jupiter or Voyager) and then a 7. It's a really small device about the length of your forearm, and I believe they only game in that green color.
I also remember reading that they're long past the point of production so if you do find one, cherish it.
The device is a Line 6 DL4 delay pedal: http://line6.com/stompboxmodelers/dl4.html
Anyway, Reggie is amazing.
