Happy Holidays, everyone! Wynter and Karen are joined by special guest panelists Tre’Vell Anderson (Director of Culture and Entertainment at Out Magazine) and 'Who Shot Ya?'s' Alonso Duralde to create the ultimate holiday playlist. Each panelist created a top ten list of their favorite holiday songs, out of which they’d select twenty for inclusion in the official Pop Rocket Holiday Playlist. Well, that was the plan, anyway. In practice, when faced with making the tough choices, they flopped. Whose version of "Sleigh Ride" should be on the playlist: Andy Williams’s, Ella Fitzgerald’s or TLC’s? Spoiler alert: They couldn’t decide.

Plus, the panelists describe their holiday family traditions, and if you’ve ever been curious what the most popular Philippine Christmas song is, resident scholar Karen Tongson reveals the answer.

From Ella Fitzgerald to Donny Hathaway, from the Morehouse Glee Club to Quad City DJs, the variety of musical stylings in this episode will get your feet tappin'.

All Abouts

For the last All Abouts of the year, each panelist picked one thing in 2018, that they could watch, listen to, read, or consume, OVER & OVER again.

Alonso is all about the Amber Ruffin segment on Late Night With Seth Meyers - 'Amber Says Why'

Karen is still all about the series finale of The Americans.

Tre’Vell is awed by EVERYTHING about Cardi B, but especially her recent appearance with James Corden in Carpool Karaoke.

Wynter can’t stop watching Mission Impossible: Fallout.

That's My Jam

For this week’s jams, each panelist picked a song that best summed up the year that was 2018.

Karen: Sound of Music Soundtrack - So Long, Farewell
Tre’vell: Fantasia - Lose to Win
Alonso: Lizzo - Good as Hell
Wynter: Drake - Nice for What

Minority Korner

Reeling from the outrage about Kaepernick's feature in Nike's new campaign, the duo discusses... is Nike doing good or is it more complicated than that?! Also they are dissecting Whitney Houston's documentary, the tragedy that she went through and why we gotta give her more respect. The main korner for the show is Anita Hill, the precursor to the #metoo movement, James breaks down everything we might not know or have forgotten about her story and everything she went through during the confirmation of Clarence Thomas. Also- who's a better actor Whitney Houston or Halle Berry?

The Song: Francis Scott Key's "Star-Spangled Banner" (1814)

For this July 4th week, Morgan and I wanted to do something special and tackle the Great American Heat Rock aka "The Star-Spangled Banner." As Oliver notes during the episode, this is both the oldest song that most Americans know (partly) by heart and the one that we'll hear the most versions of across our lifetimes. Some versions are transcendent. Some are historically groundbreaking. Some are by Fergie. Choose accordingly.

James is back from the Poconos, making Pizza Delivery guys high kick for a tip and Nnekay is MELTING and shouting from the roof tops that climate change is here and showing it's ugly lil head. Just like Nnekay did in MaxFunCon West, James had a BLAST at MaxFunCon East!!! There he met comedian Cristela Alonzo, and also comedian Janine Brito. He taught people to P.E.E- provoke, enlighten, and entertain and of course... started a Conga Line. James leaves us with some amazing tips from Chenjerai Kumanyika (@catchatweetdown) who spoke at Max Fun Con. In James' Korner he is celebrating Labor Day by talking about and honors the POCs who are normally not recognized all that they do for this holiday. In Nnekay's Korner, she is going over what the DACA Program is, how Trump and Sessions are repealing it, and what people who benefited from this program can do and know what their rights are. We are still gearing up for our 100th episode which means, we're aiming to reach 100 reviews for the drawing for our Minority Korner Care Package, so please keep the reviews coming to be entered into the running!
