Biz and Theresa ponder the growing sensation that it feels like we work here but it doesn’t feel like we live here. “Here” meaning any state of existence where we can stop thinking about everything and everyone’s needs but our own. Oh yeah, it's one of those shows. Plus, Biz reads aloud, Theresa receives a pleasant surprise, and we talk to Elizabeth Gilbert about her new book, City of Girls, and about the impossible expectations we place on mothers.

Mother's Day has come and gone, it's a first for a Nnekay and shares with us what's it been like to be celebrated. James brings up the Constance Wu controversy with the Fresh off the Boat Renewal. This was recorded before the HORRIBLE Alabama Abortion Bill- but our thoughts and comments are still on target. James takes us through the 2020 candidates that are NOT white dudes. We look at their platforms and how we can best support and find out more!

This week we're going Overboard! The crew discusses the new Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez film and compares it to the problematic original. They celebrate the underappreciated career of Anna Faris. April bemoans the fact that there are so few good female characters written into comedies. And much to the dismay of Drea, Alonso dumps all over the original Overboard. Plus, the gang discusses some of their favorite mothers in movies - the good and the evil. And as always, we've got staff picks.

In news, Bill and Ted 3 is actually happening, Ryan Murphy has the idea for a #MeToo TV show, and the royal wedding will be screened live in in theaters.

Weekly Movie Recommendations:

Ricky - Wildcats
Drea - Strictly Ballroom
April - Revenge
Alonso -The Blackwater Lightship

PLUS, we have two Spotify playlists. One is for Movie Soundtracks and the other is for Movie Scores. Check 'em out!

One Bad Mother Episode 204: Don’t Talk To Your Mother That Way!

Show:
One Bad Mother

In honor of Mother’s Day, Biz and Theresa wonder whether we have inadvertently allowed ourselves to become doormats! When we hear our partners tell our kids, "Don't talk to your mother that way," why are we surprised? It's nice to know someone has our backs, but...maybe we should also have our own backs! How do we practice patience while also standing up to our kids when they cross the line? How do we stand up to ourselves when we treat ourselves badly? Plus, Biz spends money on garbage and Theresa would like to stop having kids now!

Judge John Hodgman Episode 276: Hallmark of Justice

Guests:
Monte Belmonte

Judy files suit against her husband, Jayson, because he has stopped giving her Mother's Day cards. Jayson argues that she’s not his mother, so he shouldn’t be held responsible. Judy believes he should be setting a good example for their kids and would like to feel appreciated. Who's right? Who's wrong?

With Summertime Funtime Guest Bailiff Monte Belmonte!

EVIDENCE

SUBMITTED BY JAYSON:

Click here for an article on Mother's Day history. As Jayson says, “Not one word of wife, only a child honoring his/her mother. Plus, origins in Greek methodology and roman history similar to Saint Valentine’s Day, which now like Mother’s Day, should not be celebrated by Jews due to its pagan origins.”

Thank you to Warren Savage for suggesting this week's title! To suggest a title for a future episode, like Judge John Hodgman on Facebook. We regularly put a call for submissions.
