As you can see, Jordan Morris, "Boy Detective," met Nathan Fillion, hero to nerds everywhere.

A commenter asked for the story, and Jordan is standing right behind me, so here's the story:

"For my job we went to do a behind the scenes segment on Fillion's now-cancelled (right?) show Drive. I was a huge fan and as nervous about meeting him as I have been about anyone. He's a star through and through. Funny, warm, everything you'd want a star should be. Hopefully this man becomes more famous."

Pledge Drive Update

Wow!

Our first-ever MaximumFun.org pledge drive is going really fantastically well. We're giving away a bunch of prizes, including t-shirts, hobo illustrations, a copy of SkyMaul and a copy of The Areas of My Expertise, and a DVD box set of Get Smart. We're also getting lots of listeners stepping up and becoming supporters of maximumfun.org. And, of course, they'll all get Maximum Fun Packs in the mail, with their own Maximum Fun Club cards and more.

So far we've had (by my count) 34 new pledges -- most of which are monthly commitments. I want to thank the following folks for supporting the show thus far:
Sarah Z, Kyle H, Margaret H, David B, Craig S, Edward M, Mike D, Jeff M, Ayesha M, Marylee R, Reena R, David S, Guan Y, Tim A, Mark M, Scott S, Justin Z, Tom S, Brian S, Adam L, Nicholas L, Adam K, Chris F, Elias G, Matt A, Maryam M, Kristen S, Neal S, Elisabeth C, Zack S, Carol M, David L, Mason P, Daniel S, William R, Keren K, Rachel L, Charles F, Alex T, Ben W, Derek H, Joseph C, Aaron M & Linus B.

Not yet a donor? You still have time. I'm absolutely committed to keeping this drive to two weeks, but there's still a full week left.

If you haven't yet given, what's holding you back? Just haven't pulled the trigger yet?

Donate now.

Pledge Drive: 5/1 - 5/15 (Inclusive)

Preamble

It's officially been one year since The Sound of Young America and MaximumFun.org starting accepting donations. In that time, dozens of listeners have stepped up to the plate to support our programming (and blogging). Your support has allowed me to expand our offerings, buy some new equipment and quit my day job (though I still spend too much time on contract work).

In celebration of a year of donation-supported content, we're having a good old-fashioned pledge drive. The goal is to build a base of supporters that can carry the show into the future.

Here's the deal.

I give everything away for free. The blog, all the shows and all their archives, the radio show... everything. There's no mandatory subscription fees or pay-per-downloads here. My first priority is sharing this work with you.

In order for me to do that, I need your support.

I ask that you donate to support the show. You can give $20 a month if you have the means, or you can give $2 or $5 if you're as broke as I am. I ask for monthly gifts because I'm not a professional fundraiser, and I'd rather dedicate my time (and yours) to programming and not to asking for money. This way, instead of fundraising two or three times a year, I can do it once. That said, if you'd like to make a one-time donation, or simply mail a check, you can do that as well.

I appreciate your support -- and because of that, I'm giving shit away to say "thanks."

Thank You Gifts

Everyone who donates will receive a Maximum Fun Pack. That means a Maximum Fun Club card, personally inscribed (not to mention laminated) by yours truly, some stickers, and a pin for your lapel.

If you donate at the $10 or $20/month level, I'll send you a Sound of Young America t-shirt. If you've already got one, get one for your spouse! It'll be great, they'll love it, I promise.

And furthermore...

The Big Prizes

Everyone who donates will be entered into a prize drawing. It's different from most drawings in that you have a great chance of winning.

You could win:
Kasper Hauser's SkyMaul: Happy Crap You Can Buy From A Plane

John Hodgman's Areas of My Expertise, personally autographed by the author

One of FIVE personalized Hobos drawn according to a name you choose by the great Ape Lad (also known as Adam Koford)

Or the grand prize:
A complete box set of the legendary spy spoof series Get Smart (created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry) -- a set which costs $300 in the store!

So Donate Now

Click here for our donation page, where you can choose the level of your support. If you'd like a t-shirt, be sure to include your shirt size and address. And once you do donate, be sure to record an intro for The Sound of Young America!

Introduction
Jesse and Jordan are in a village in India. They are joined by comedian Chris Fairbanks. A discussion of Jesse's birthday quickly becomes a discussion of Jamie Kennedy.
Hearst Castle
Jesse and Chris have both had very strange experiences on Hearst Castle tours -- but both loved the experience. Chris was so moved that he wants to make a mockumentary about tour guides there.
Pledge Break!
The MaximumFun.org pledge drive is May first through fifteenth. There are lots of great prizes and a big sweepstakes if you donate to the show, so please do so.

Podcast: Jordan, Jesse GO! Ep. 20: Sadness, etc.

In this week's Jordan Jesse GO!, we discuss our joys and sadnesses.

Introduction
Jesse and Jordan are on a marina. We address the fact that a listener named Mika thought a "beer koozie" was a jacuzzi full of beer. Also: Jordan wants to get a massage, but he's worried he'll accidentally go to a handjob store.
Elderly Greeks
Jordan attended his house-mate Lauren's grand-Uncle's 80th birthday. Children insulted the uncle. Jordan is worried that the more comedy he does, the less he is able to directly experience life -- he just sees everything as comedy fodder.
A Drinking Game?
What would be the rules of a JJGO or TSOYA drinking game?

Puppies, Etc

Jesse's girlfriend Theresa has hormones which are starting to demand children. So they are thinking about getting a dog instead.

Guy Quits His Job
Our new thing is celebrating important moments in your life with you. A guy called in immediately after quitting his job, which he hated.

ACTION ITEMS

* Should we have Rutger Hauer on JJGO? If so: what should we do with him?
* If you're creative, do you see everything through that lens? Does it intrude on your direct experience of life?
* Have a rule for the JJGO drinking game?
* Should Jordan join Crunch fitness, and where can he get a massage that won't turn into a handjob?

LISTENER SONG

"Doo Doo Doo Doo" by The Screaming Eagles from "Enemy Gold" (Thanks, Dave!)

Podcast: Jordan, Jesse Go! Ep 19: Ask a Republican

In this week's Jordan Jesse GO!, we discuss the misspent youths of others.

Introduction
Jesse and Jordan are in the jungles of Malaysia. They discuss, among other things, Veronica Mars, The Gilmore Girls and Entourage. Jordan is both drawn to and repelled by the latter. Can you explain it's appeal to us?
Ashley from Lubbock
Our Official Caller Ashley, a 17-year-old from Lubbock, calls in to tell us she's from Lubbock, not Houston as we had erroneously asserted. We don't think she should listen to Jordan, Jesse GO! in class. No one should listen to their walkmen/ipods/discmen/transistor radios in class unless the Giants are in the playoffs.
Ask a Republican
We are joined by the gracious and fascinating Richard Martin, a Republican representative from Ohio. Congressman Martin answers questions from us and from listeners.

Jordan Sings

By popular demand, the segment Jordan Sings returns. This week, he sings "The Big Rock Candy Mountain," a song about a hobo's paradise.

ACTION ITEMS
* What is the appeal of Entourage?
* What can we do to help Ashley?

CONTINUING ACTION ITEMS:

* Review the show on iTunes.
* Do you have a dispute Judge John Hodgman can solve on a future broadcast? Email it to us! Put Judge John in the subject line.

Jordan Burns MTV

In 2003, Jordan, Jesse GO! co-host Jordan Morris was bored. So, he did what any normal college graduate would do to entertain himself -- he made up a complicated and absurd story in order to prank a prank show.

He told "Burned," a dating-based knockoff of "Punked," that his friend Hector had a one man show, which Hector performed in order to get girls. He also told them that he could get Hector to come to a party with him, where Hector would perform the monologue, then get "Burn'd."

It turned out Jordan's friend Hector couldn't come, so Jordan asked another friend, whose name wasn't even Hector, to stand in for him. Then he wrote the "one man show" for "Hector," corralled a few other friends into the operation, and, well, burned Burn'd.

It aired a month or two later, my aunt and uncle taped it for me, and this is the first time the prank has been ever been revealed.

Particularly enjoyable: Jordan's absurd flopping about when the "burn" is "revealed."

Podcast: Jordan, Jesse GO! Ep. 18: Misspent Youth

In this week's Jordan Jesse GO!, we discuss the misspent youths of others.

Introduction
Jesse and Jordan are in a casino in Atlantic City, joined by Stephen Brophy and Bucky Sinister. Stephen performs with The Bruce McCulloch Project and writes for the TBS "microseries" lovebites. Bucky is a poet and the author of All Blacked Out & Nowhere to Go.

We announce the winners of the High Five Contest, a conversation which spins out of control.

Mis-spent Youth
Bucky talks about, among other topics, his friend Razor. Like Bucky, Razor is now clean & sober, but in their youth, Razor was a great guy to do drugs with on Christmas Day. Bucky and Jesse start talking about AA meetings, which might be a bit self-indulgent, but it's important, you know?
Barefoot
Why isn't Jordan wearing shoes?

Bruce Wayne

Bucky reads a poem from his book. It's about an alternate universe where Bruce Wayne is a mess and Bucky really has his shit together.

Cardboard Trucks

Listeners call in to discuss the vital topic of Cardboard Trucks.

Project Breakout

Our sponsor is Project Breakout, and they are currently accepting votes on funny videos.

Beer Koozies

Jordan discuss beer koozies. He's noticed people bringing them to bars. What's that all about?

Porn in the Woods

A round robin on advice for our 17-year-old listener Ashley turns into a discussion of finding porn in the woods and the sad ways rural children entertain themselves.

Outro

We pretty much just wrap stuff up.

Bonus Audio
SPECIAL BONUS AUDIO: Bucky discusses doing standup for the first time at age 37.
