Guests:
Jimmy Tamborello

Our first guest on Song Exploder is Jimmy Tamborello, aka Dntel, aka one half of The Postal Service (the other half being Ben Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie). Jimmy breaks down "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight," and talks about his instruments, his influences, and how he accidentally made a loop out of Jenny Lewis's backing vocals.

Brilliant!

I love the concept for this show! And what an excellent first choice of song! I was a huge fan of Rob Kapilow's "What Makes it Great" series on NPR where Kapilow broke down the elements of melody, harmony, rhythm, and lyric in classic compositions and showed how they all combine to create tremendous prosody in a piece. I feel like 'Song Exploder' is updating that tradition for modern music.

I would love to help out on this podcast in any possible way! I could do research, message musicians, edit audio, anything! Please contact me! derekjonorth@gmail.com
